Nurses at California and Nevada hospitals, including Mercy Medical Center Merced, are planning to stage a one-day strike and picket on Oct. 30.
About 16,000 registered nurses at 39 facilities will protest poor readiness by many hospitals to confront the swine flu epidemic. The RNs say hospitals are not doing enough to isolate patients with swine flu symptoms and other steps to limit the spread of the flu.
The nurses scheduled to strike are union members of the California Nurses' Association.
