Merced County schools honored

California Business for Education Excellence announced its annual honor roll Monday.

The 2009 Honor Roll includes 1,304 California public elementary, middle and high schools that have been recognized by California's business community for high student academic achievement and significant progress toward closing achievement gaps among all their students.

The Honor Roll is made up of two different awards, the Star Schools Award and Scholar Schools Award.

There are 395 star schools and 909 scholar schools that made the list.

In Merced County, several schools were honored. They are:

Star Schools

Schendel Elementary, Delhi Unified

Oro Loma Elementary, Dos Palos Oro Loma Unified

El Nido Elementary, El Nido

Yamato Colony Elementary, Livingston Union Elementary

Scholar Schools

McSwain Elementary, McSwain Union
