Update: Merced Sheriff's Office kicks off 'Operation Christmas' toy drive

The Merced Sheriff’s Office said it's accepting applications for its annual “Operation Christmas."

People who live outside city limits but within Merced County, and who are on financial assistance, can pick up an application from one of the three offices located in Merced, Delhi or Los Banos. They can also go online at, click the link, print an application and then bring it in. The applications need to be filled out and returned by Friday, Dec. 4.

The Sheriff's Office is also collecting new unwrapped toys for underprivileged children ages 0 to 16 or cash donations to buy a new toy. Sheriff's deputies will have a command post set up at M and 23rd Street in Merced Dec. 8 from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
