The City of Merced Department of Parks and Community Services said it's is holding a community workshop at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Merced Senior Center, 755 W. 15th St.
The workshop is to gather ideas on the city’s grant proposal to improve McNamara Park. Participants will vote on whether Merced should request more picnic areas for McNamara Park, a new soccer field, a “splash park” near the pool, more playground equipment, an additional basketball court or other features.
The State Department of Parks and Recreation will award grants for new recreational activities in critically underserved and low-income communities in California. More than 45 percent of the residents near McNamara Park are living in poverty. The dtate requires that community members be given an opportunity to choose the grant-funded recreation projects.
