The Merced County Department of Public Health will host a swine flu vaccination clinic in Atwater Saturday.
The clinic will be held at Peggy Heller School, 201 Lakeview Dr., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Administrative fees will be waived for residents without insurance coverage. Those with insurance should bring their insurance cards, though they won’t be charged for the shots.
All children under 10 should receive two doses of the vaccine, taken about a month a part.
“The County Health Department continues to make H1N1 flu vaccine clinics a top priority,” Public Health Director John Volanti said in a press release. “Despite the recall of vaccine for young children, we have ample supply of non-affected vaccine to vaccinate residents of all ages. The flu vaccine is still the safest and most effective way to protect against the flu.”
People who have a fever or have received other live vaccines, such as flu mist or the measles, mumps or a rubella shot in the past few weeks, may not be eligible to receive a flu vaccine based on the health department’s guidelines for vaccine administration.
