Merced council to meet Monday about G Street contract and 2010-11 budget

The Merced City Council said it will meet in an adjourned regular session Monday to award the contract for construction of the G Street railroad undercrossing and conduct a study session on the 2010-11 budget.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Merced Council Chambers on the second floor of the Merced Civic Center, 678 W. 18th St.

The council said it’s been asked to award Teichert Construction a $5 million contract for the G Street project. The engineer’s estimate for the project was $8.1 million. The city plans to begin construction in mid-July and close G Street at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks for up to 18 months, according to a news release.

During the study session, the council will review the City’s annual budget. The budget is posted online at the city’s website, The council agenda is posted online at and is available outside the chambers prior to the meeting. Request to Speak cards are available at the meeting or can be downloaded from the city's website. Cards must be turned in to the City Clerk in order for a person to be recognized by the council.
