Male teen shot in arm in Planada in suspected gang incident expected to recover

A 17-year-old male was shot once in the forearm by four hooded suspects in Planada, but is expected to recover from the wound.

On Thursday night, according to sheriff's deputies, they recieced a report of a gunshot victim in the 9000 block of Broadway in Planada. According to victim’s statements, he was walking on Broadway when he was approached by four Hispanic male suspects dressed in black “hoodie” sweatshirts with the hoods pulled low to hide their faces. They were also wearing black or red pants. They started yelling gang slurs and fired a least one round from an unknown caliber handgun at the victim.

The Hispanic victim was struck once in the forearm and took off running. The bullet went through his right forearm, and he was taken to Mercy Hospital by ambulance. During questioning, the victim kept changing his story and couldn't provide any further details about the suspects, according to Deputy Tom MacKenzie.

The suspects and victim are both believed to be involved in gang activity, MacKenzie said.
