Brown elected governor; Boxer, Fiorina too close to call

California voters chose Jerry Brown as governor again and re-elected Sen. Barbara Boxer, significant victories for Democrats on a night when Republicans were gaining substantial ground nationwide.

Early tallies of absentee ballots posted shortly after polls closed showed Proposition 19, also known as the Regulate, Control and Tax Cannabis Act, trailing 43 to 57 percent statewide.
