'Community Conversations' focuses on MERCO bike race, Hornitos

This week's episode of the radio show "Community Conversations" will focus on the MERCO bicycle race through Downtown Merced, the Mariposa County town of Hornitos and the role of school resource officers in education.

The hour-long show focuses on community, education and government news affecting residents throughout Merced County. It airs on KYOS, 1480 AM, at 7 p.m. Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The show, hosted by Nathan Quevedo of the Merced County Office of Education, includes: Alice Kieffer of Castle Family Health Centers and Atwater Soroptimist Club for a segment on A Day of Service; Doug Fluetsch on the new route for the MERCO race; Keri Ortiz of the Hornitos Patrons Club talking about the Gold Rush-era town; Daphne Post, a program specialist at MCOE, and Mandy Xiong, a former student, talking about the Youth Opportunity Program; Merced police officer Ben Dalia, talking about the role of school resource officers on Merced-area campuses; and Mike Conway, city of Merced public information officer, on the hiring of a consultant to help explain the city's financial situation to the public.
