The Merced County Sheriff's Office said that after a short pursuit, it arrested a man late Friday in Delhi for meth, evading an officer and reckless driving.
Just before midnight at Schendel Avenue and Shanks Road, Deputy Brandon Thomas tried to make a routine vehicle stop on Mario Armendariz, 38, while he was on a motorcycle. Armendariz took off and a 30-second pursuit followed, according to Deputy Tom MacKenzie.
The pursuit ended at Shanks Road and August Avenue about a half mile away when Armendariz’s motorcycle blew an engine.
After a brief struggle, Armendariz was taken into custody by several deputies. He was found in possession of a quarter-ounce of methamphetamine, according to MacKenzie.
Armendariz was booked on charges of evading a police officer, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, resisting arrest and possession for sale of methamphetamine. He has already made the $24,000 bail.
