Atwater police looking for couple who beat woman in home-invasion robbery

A home-invasion robbery on Wednesday, April 27, left a 56-year-old Atwater woman severely beaten, Atwater police said.

One of the robbers used the victim's ATM bank card at financial institutions around Merced, and police are hoping photos from ATM surveillance footage will lead to his or her arrest.

The intruders entered the woman's home at 3 a.m. on April 27, and ordered her to the ground, where she was bound and beaten. The woman later told police she was able to hear both a male and female voice during the robbery. The suspects stayed in the home for 20 to 30 minutes and took several valuable items. They left in the woman's silver 2005 Buick Rainier, license plate No. 5MBA717.

The woman eventually broke free and called neighbors for help. Police discovered that the suspects used the woman's card at several banks around Merced. Surveillance footage from one of the ATM's shows a partial view of a suspect's face, and Atwater police are hopeful someone will recognize the person in the image.
