Six local students win Comcast scholarships

Comcast said it will distribute $210,000 in scholarships at a special recognition ceremony saluting the 190 California high school seniors from 104 cities and 30 counties who have won a 2011 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship of $1,000.

Local winners include Nicolette Schiber of Atwater High School; Cheyanne Young of Buhach Colony High School; Kisha McGuire of Livingston High School; Anna Almario of Stone Ridge Christian High School; Katie Donnell of Golden Valley High School and Laura Gray of Merced High School.

Two students will receive $10,000 scholarships, and 20 of the winning students will have their name drawn for a laptop computer to use at college. In addition, the students and their families will also receive a tour of the State Capitol and the California Museum of Women and the Arts. In 2011, the program will grant more than $2.1 million, recognizing more than 2,100 students attending high schools in Comcast communities across the country.
