Ex-Chowchilla mayor jailed on grand theft and other charges

Tom DuBose, a former mayor and city council member, was arrested July 17 in Chowchilla. He was booked into the Madera County Department of Corrections.

According to a news release from the Chowchilla Police Department, DuBose, 53, was arrested on a warrant that contained several felony charges. Among the charges brought against DuBose were two counts of grand theft, false financial statements and intent to defraud.

Police chief Jay Varney said in the release that “these charges stem from two separate cases investigated by the Chowchilla Police Department.” There was no additional information immediately available from local police.

DuBose appeared in court Tuesday morning where the judge kept the bail at $600,000. DuBose was scheduled for a bail hearing on Thursday, July 21, and will appear back in court next week.

DuBose remained in the Madera County Jail as of Tuesday morning.
