Cal Fire/Merced County Fire Department put out a fire early Tuesday in Atwater that caused no injuries but about $40,000 in damages.
Around 2 a.m. firefighters responded to a single-family, single-story structure fire in the 3000 block of Langtry Avenue in the Atwater area. The fire started in the garage and spread underneath the home’s raised foundation, causing an estimated $40,000 in damages. The structure was occupied at the time of fire. The residents were alerted of the fire by their dog, and they were able to exit the home without injuries.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Responding units included three county fire engines, two county water tenders and one chief officer.
