Bowlers complaining of muck on their bowling balls at Bellevue Bowl

Merced Sun-Star

Last season I had three average association members come up and ask what was on their bowling ball during the league, and then I had the same thing happen to me during the Wednesday Night Classic with a bowler asking me about her ball.

It looks like some type of muck, real tacky. That’s what I had all over my ball last week after rolling in the Classic at Bellevue Bowl.

My ball keeps coming back with some type of gunk on the ball and real tacky as well. I tried rubbing it off with my towel, but that didn’t work. It felt like I was trying to rub off sandpaper on the ball.

One bowler took out some cleaning wipes to clean off the cover stock of his ball. You can not get it off. Some high average bowlers in Gene Broussard and Larry Valenti Jr. were complaining about the gunk during the last City Tournament.

Dave Cline, a bowler center manager for years thought it was dirt, oil, or grease built-up on the under lane channel/rails that is used to return the balls to the ball rack. Could this be the problem?

I think it’s about time the management of Bellevue Bowl looks into the problem with the muck on the balls of their league bowlers. A woman mentioned to me last week that the muck is getting in the finger and thumb holes now.

I talked to Mike Giordano, who takes care of the lanes and the machines at Bellevue Bowl, and he says they are aware of the problem and they’re working on it.

Hopefully the problem gets fixed soon.
