Cal entered the recruiting battle for Merced's Bernard Bolden and Nathan Mayfield over the weekend.
The Pac-10 power, which climbed as high as No. 2 in the BCS rankings last season, offered both players football scholarships on Saturday.
Both juniors have attracted interest from most of the Pac-10 schools.
Bolden, who was the Central California Conference Defensive Player of the Year last year, has also received offers from Washington State and Arizona.

Arizona has also already offered Mayfield a scholarship. The Merced defensive end has attracted interest for his speed around the corner.
