Sometimes the fates have to align with these things.
The last Northern California baseball poll was issued on April 2, with the Blue Devils sitting 36 points behind No. 1 Ohlone and eight points behind No. 2 Diablo Valley. No poll was issued last week, I believe because so many schools were on spring break.
MC had a solid showing on a three-game road trip down South last week, with victories over SoCal-ranked opponents College of the Canyons and Allan Hancock. Meanwhile, Diablo Valley began to struggle, dropping two of its last three games.
No. 1 Ohlone stumbled as well. No. 10 Cosumnes River won the second game of a doubleheader last week and then No. 6 San Mateo pulled a 4-3 upset on Tuesday.
To add a little bit of extra drama, No. 4 Feather River -- who sat just three points behind MC -- was shocked by losing its first conference game of the season.
The one thing going against MC is that it won't play again until Friday because of spring break, but the opportunity is certainly there. At the very least, when the new poll comes out Thursday morning the Blue Devils should be the No. 2 team in Northern California. And if the voters are fair and just, MC should hit No. 1 for the first time in Chris Pedretti's storied tenure.
