UC Merced women’s soccer team ends trip with big win
The UC Merced women’s soccer team bounced back from one of the ugliest losses in the school’s short history with a 3-0 victory over the Oregon Institute of Technology on Monday in Klamath Falls, Ore.
The win came 48 hours after a 5-0 drubbing at Southern Oregon, the most lopsided loss the Bobcats (2-1-1) have suffered since their inaugural season. UCM clearly put the defeat behind it as it closed a season-opening four-game trip.
Veronica Villacorta, Ashley Bennett and Katerina Rocker Heppe found the back of the net, while Abbie-Leigh Meneses and Daisy Bonilla picked up assists. Maggie Morales (three saves) and Gabby Vinco (two) combined for Merced’s third shutout in four contests.
The Bobcats will make their home debut Thursday against Hope International at Lake Field at 1 p.m.
