Bass Pro Shops offers 'challenge'

The Field & Stream "Total Outdoorsman Challenge" stops at the Bass Pro Shops in Manteca, April 17-18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day to give local fishermen and hunters a chance to compete for prizes or at least show off their skills.

In its seventh year, the nationwide contest is to name the "most competent" outdoorsman in the country. There also is an event for kids, running from noon to 3 p.m. Adults will compete in baitcasting, air rifle and archery.

Competitors must bring their own equipment. Kids will try their luck at bucket fishing, archery, life-jacket races, knot-tying and a sleeping bag roll up.
