A 48-year-old Atwater man died Wednesday after his truck went off the road and crashed into a power pole.
The man, whose name is being withheld pending notification to his family, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup west on Atwater Jordan Road, west of Giannini Road, at an unknown speed about 3:15 p.m. when the pickup went onto the northern dirt shoulder and hit a garbage can, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The truck then traveled across Atwater Jordan Road onto the southern dirt shoulder and the right front of the Chevrolet hit a wooden power pole and overturned the truck, according to the CHP.
When the truck began to overturn, the driver, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected, according to the CHP.
The driver suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is under investigation and it's unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.
