Two separate shootings reported in Delhi

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two separate shootings in Delhi, one of which wounded a 16-year-old boy.

The first shooting happened about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday when a small car drove by a residence in the 16000 block of Corner Street. A person in the car fired several shots, striking the teenager, who was in the front yard with his younger brother. The boy was driven to the hospital by family and friends before deputies arrived on scene.

Right before 1 a.m. Monday, the Sheriff’s Department received reports of a shooting in the 1600 block of Shendel Road. When deputies arrived on scene, the caller said the suspect walked up to the front yard and fired several rounds into the residence before leaving in a vehicle. No one was injured.

Investigators believe the incident is gang-related. The suspects were described as Hispanic men wearing dark clothing.

Authorities asked that anyone with information contact the Sheriff’s Department. All callers will remain anonymous.
