A vehicle reported stolen from a Save Mart parking lot in Atwater earlier this week was recovered Thursday night by the Merced County Sheriff's STAR Team, a deputy said.
Winton residents Emmanuel Reyna, 26, and Erika Tolentino, 21, were arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property and possession of methamphetamine with intention to sell. They remain in custody in lieu of bail, said sheriff's spokesman deputy Tom MacKenzie.
Reyna had two felony warrants and one misdemeanor warrant, MacKenzie said. His bail was set at $162,000. Tolentino's bail was set at $32,000.
Detective Nichole Ramos of the STAR Team was investigating a stolen vehicle when she and other deputies responded to an address in Winton and saw a 1991 Honda Coupe, which they learned had been stolen, MacKenzie said.
Never miss a local story.
Deputies set up surveillance of the residence in the 5900 block of Cypress Avenue and saw two people get in the car and leave. Ramos and other deputies stopped the vehicle at Buhach Road and Santa Fe Drive in Atwater.
The driver of the vehicle was Reyna, who had two felony warrants for his arrest for drunk driving and possession of narcotics, and a misdemeanor warrant for a suspended license, MacKenzie said.
Tolentino was a passenger in the vehicle.
Deputies reported finding a loaded meth pipe under Reyna's seat, and Tolentino had another loaded meth pipe in the door pocket, MacKenzie said.
Reyna is being held at the Merced County Jail. Tolentino is being held at the John Latorraca Correctional Facility.
