Homicide reported at Tenaya Middle School in Merced

One person was shot to death Sunday evening in the parking lot of Tenaya Middle School, Merced police reported.

Details about the shooting are preliminary. The victim has only been identified as a “younger male” and his name has not been released.

Police responded to a shots fired call at 6:55 p.m. and found the victim unresponsive in the school’s parking lot, located at 760 W. 8th St., according to Sgt. Alan Ward.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No suspect is in custody, and a description of the shooter is not available.

The death is the second homicide reported since Friday in Merced, and the fifth homicide reported this year in the city.
