Merced police seek help in solving September homicide

Merced police investigating the September shooting death of a Merced man have asked for the public’s help in solving the crime.

Darryl Smith, 21, was found dead the evening of Sept. 30 in the 3100 block of Meadows Avenue. Officers responding to a report of gunfire found Smith dead from gunshot wounds to his torso and lower body.

A statement released Friday by the Police Department said detectives have interviewed and contacted many people in the case, which remains unsolved.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective Alvarez at 209-385-7705 or Merced police dispatch at 209-385-6905.
