Shaver Lake under mandatory evacuation. Here’s full list of orders in California’s Creek Fire

Updated 10:20 a.m. Sunday.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office issued a mandatory evacuation order Sunday morning for the Shaver Lake area, from Shaver Lake to Littlefield Road, as the Creek Fire continued to burn through foothill and mountain brush in eastern Fresno and Madera counties.

There are evacuation orders in effect for:

  • Shaver Lake down to Cressman
  • Big Creek
  • Huntington Lake
  • Camp Sierra
  • High Sierra areas, which include: Florence Lake, Ward Lake, Portal Forebay, Edison Lake, Mono Hot Springs, Kaiser and all campgrounds.

An evacuation order means there is immediate threat to life and the area is lawfully closed to public access.

There are evacuation warnings in effect for:

  • Cressman Road
  • Auberry Road from the top of the four lanes to Powerhouse to the San Joaquin River.
  • Jose Basin, Alder Spring, Mono Wind Casino, Meadow Lakes and Mile High.

An evacuation warning means there is a potential threat to life and or property.

Those who might require extra time to evacuate, including those with pets and livestock, had been advised to leave even if only a warning has been issued.

Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue has declared a state of emergency for Madera County.

Highway 168 eastbound at Prather was closed to all motorists, with no timeline for when it will reopen, according to Tony Botti, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office,

Several communities in Madera County remained under threat as well.

As of late Saturday afternoon, the Creek Fire had burned about 36,000 acres in the Sierra National Forest. The cause of the fire, which broke out Friday, remains under investigation.

On Saturday morning, officials with the U.S. Forest Service estimated the size of the fire at about 600 acres. By 11 a.m., that had been revised to 2,000 acres.

By the time Cal Fire and the Forest Service upgraded the size to 5,000 acres about 2 p.m., the fire had spread north of the San Joaquin River into Madera County, prompting evacuation orders in several communities and warnings in several others.

The Fresno-Madera Red Cross has established temporary evacuation points: one at Foothill Elementary School in Prather, in Fresno County, and the other at North Fork Elementary School in the Madera County town of North Fork.
