  • Three Merced County food businesses earned 'good' ratings during inspections.
  • One facility received a perfect score; others had minor plumbing, labeling issues.
  • Violations are categorized by health risk and may require immediate correction.

Three Merced County businesses received “good” ratings when they were visited by Merced County Division of Environmental Health inspectors between Sept. 3 and Sept. 8. One of the facilities inspected received a perfect score.

Businesses that accumulate zero to six violation points during an inspection receive a “good” rating. A rating of “satisfactory” is given to businesses that accumulate seven to 13 points, while businesses that accumulate 14 points or greater, receive an “unsatisfactory” rating.

Violations recorded by inspectors can range in severity from minor to major. Major violations are “violations that are very likely to get people sick” and those violations must be corrected immediately or the business, or parts of the business must close until the issue is corrected, according tot he Merced County Division of Environmental Health. If a business fails an inspection, a reinspection is required to take place at a later date.

The Merced County Division of Environmental Health said violations that are considered to be minor are “violations that are likely to get people sick but does not require the location to close.”

The latest businesses inspected include:

Raley’s Store #309 Merced-Starbucks Kiosk, located at 3550 N. G Street in Merced received a “good” rating with one violation point on Sept. 3.

  • During the final inspection, an ice machine was not installed. When the machine is installed, there must be a one inch air gap above the flood plain of the floor sink.
  • The inspector noted that a floor sink that services a three-compartment sink was not capable of draining all three basins simultaneously without overflowing. All construction debris or service plumbing is to be cleared to allow for simultaneous draining without overflowing. All plumbing and plumbing fixtures should be installed in compliance with local plumbing ordinances and maintained to be kept clean, in fully operational and to prevent contamination.

Boland’s Market, located at 15904 N. Highway 59 in Snelling received a “good” rating with two violation points on Sept. 8.

  • An inspector noted that they observed missing floor tiles located in a food isle near an ice cream freezer. The tiles should be repaired or replaces to make the area easily cleanable.
  • The inspector noted a repeat violation when they observed ice being made at the facility that was not properly labeled with the facility’s name and address.

Snelling Chevron, located at 15875 N. Hwy 59 in Snelling received a “good” rating with zero violation points on Sept. 8.

In some instances, problems found by inspectors can be fixed at the time of inspection. In other instances, violations that are deemed more serious could result in the closure of the business at the time of inspection.

The inspections represent a snapshot of conditions that were observed by health inspectors at the time of their visit and may not indicate a pattern of good or bad safety practices.

The Merced County Division of Environmental Health keeps a database of restaurant and food inspections which can be found online at the Merced County Environmental Health website.
