Merced Arts Wrap for 04/03/15

St. Matthew Baptist Church

St. Matthew Baptist Church, 1057 N St., Merced, is hosting an evening of original material to help present the gospel of Jesus to the public on Good Friday. It is called “Take Me to the King – A Night of Performing Arts.” Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Friday and the performance will begin around 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Sloth One art show

Los Angeles-based artist Sloth One has taken residence inside Mariposa Art Company at 1637 M St. in downtown Merced. A one-night pop-up show featuring the work of Sloth will take place April 11, with doors opening at 8 p.m. Hard of Heart will perform live music and entertainment during the event. Christian singer

Merced College Exhibition

Merced College Art Gallery is presenting an exhibition of painting and print by Arnold Anthony Orosco through April 16. Orosco is a native of Southern California whose work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout the country. The public is welcome to meet the artist and visit the gallery. Admission to the gallery is free, and parking is enforced. Merced College is at 3600 M St.

Merced Camera Club

Events at Kewl Cats

There’s karaoke at Kewl Cats from 9 p.m. until close Monday through Thursday. Friday nights have DJs, and live bands perform Saturday nights. For more information, visit kewlcats.net.

World Dance course

A World Dance course is being offered through Merced College Community Services and will be held Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 at Merced College in Gym-4. The cost is $40 per person per six-week session, the first of which began Wednesday. Applicants can register for free online at www.mercedcommunityservices.com.

South Pacific dance lessons

The South Pacific Dance Company is teaching traditional dance and music from the cultures of Hawaii and Tahiti. The school is now enrolling for the spring semester, ages 4 and older, beginners to advanced. Males and females are both welcome. Classes are held at Creation Station, 2408 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. In addition, the Soul Power Dance Crew is now taking enrollment for an eight-week session in hip-hop dance for ages 7 through teens. College for Kids sign-ups

Merced College’s College for Kids is accepting registrations now for the 2015 summer program. Arranged in three sessions, the classes and programs offered to area children include aquatics, arts, sports, cooking, math, science, language arts, and more. The first session begins on June 15. College for Kids enrichment classes are $60 to $65 per class. Aquatics classes are $55 per class. Fees for individual sports camps vary.
