Arts Wrap for July 3, 2015

Country act coming

Singer-songwriter Jackson Michelson is set to play at 8 p.m. July 11 at Vista Ranch and Cellars, 7326 E State Highway 140, in Merced. He’s played on the same ticket with Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker and Sawyer Brown. Tickets are $20 ahead of time and $25 at the door. Playhouse for kids

The Summer Youth Theatre Festival at Playhouse Merced is a way to introduce children to shows and songs in a professional theatrical environment. The four-week class for older children, ages 12 to 18, costs $315, and is held from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. every weekday July 6-31. That class also culminates in performances on Playhouse Merced’s main stage. Summer arts

Los Banos Unified School District, in partnership with the Merced County Office of Education and the Merced County Education Foundation, is hosting the Summer Performing Arts Program on the Westside that will culminate in several performances of the musical “Once on This Island!” The summer program begins June 30 and runs through Aug. 8, and will be held at Pacheco High School in Los Banos; registration is open to all Merced County students entering fourth through eighth grades and is first come, first served. Film noir to show

The Merced 13 theater plans a special showing of “Double Indemnity,” Billy Wilder’s 1944 film noir classic starring Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray. The showing is on conjunction with the TCM channel. The film is scheduled to play at 2 and 7 p.m. on July 19 and 20.

Merced Camera Club

The Merced Camera Club welcomes all who are interested in photography to its meetings at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Merced County Farm Bureau, 646 S. Highway 59. Call 209-382-0222 or 209-761-0260.

South Pacific dance lessons

The South Pacific Dance Company is teaching traditional dance and music from the cultures of Hawaii and Tahiti. The school enrolls ages 4 and older, beginners to advanced.
