Arts Wrap for Aug. 14, 2015

Mixed media display

UC Merced and the Merced County Arts Council are collaborating on an exhibit that features research from the university and community art in an exhibit titled “Interdisciplinary Art – A Mixed Media Show.” An opening reception is to be held in the Multicultural Arts Center, 645 Main St., from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14. The exhibit will be on display at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center in downtown Merced through Sept. 29. Entrance to the center is free.

Fundraiser with tea and music

The National Council of Negro Women plans its annual Victorian High Tea at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at 2410 Cedar Crest Drive in Merced. The event is a membership drive and fundraiser to benefit the group’s book-related programs. General admission is $35. For more information or tickets, call 209-723-0820.

Michael Jackson cover band

Music of Cash

A country music show is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Vista Ranch and Cellars, 7236 E. Highway 140, in Merced. Cowboys by Night will open the the show for headliner James Garner’s Tribute to Johnny Cash, which includes the hits from the Man in Black. Musical season to begin

Playhouse Merced’s 2015-16 season lineup of shows that feature music, comedy, holiday themes and even a horror movie adaptation begin with “Evita” at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28, with several other showings to follow. Christian artist

Costume contest

The Owl Empire of Stanislaus County Inc. plans a costume contest called “A Night of Villains” at 6 p.m. Aug. 29 at Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. The villain-themed event includes a costume and performance contest. Tickets are $15 before the show, and $20 at the door.
