Classic rock band set to perform its many hits in Turlock. See who and when

The Marshall Tucker Band will bring its Southern rock classic hits from the 1970s to Turlock Community Theatre. There are more shows and cultural events on the schedule in the Modesto region from Feb. 21-27.

Turlock Community Theatre will host Southern rock’s The Marshall Tucker Band. The hit-making group formed in 1972 and has more than 20 studio albums and several live releases. Among its biggest songs are “Heard It in a Love Song,” “Can’t You See,” “Fire on the Mountain” “Long Hard Ride” and “Ramblin’.”

Legends of Country

Legends of Country is a tribute production to the biggest names in country music. Coming to the Gallo Center, the show will feature the songs of legendary stars including Trisha Yearwood, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Kenny Rogers and Reba McEntire.

The Doo Wop Project

The Doo Wop Project brings its new show, “Echoes of the Street,” to the Gallo Center. The production features a band as well as five Broadway artists from hit productions such as “Jersey Boys,” “A Bronx Tale,” “Beautiful” and “Motown: The Musical.”

BYU Dance Ensemble

BYU International Dance Ensemble will bring its show “Journey” to the Gallo Center. The program “invites audiences to explore the ties that bind us across generations through the art of folk dance,” according to the center’s website.

DRUMLine Live

DRUMLine Live, created by the musical team behind the hit movie “Drumline,” returns to the Gallo Center. With choreography and percussion, DRUMLine Live “pays homage to the show-style marching popularized at historically black colleges and universities,” the center’s website says.

Gospel Jam

“Gospel Jam: A Celebration of Faith, Culture, and Community” will be presented by the United Black Student Unions of California (UBSUC) – Central Region. Coming to the State Theatre, Gospel Jam “is a dynamic celebration that brings together students, families, and community members for an evening of uplifting music, powerful performances, and cultural unity,” according to the theater’s website.

Black History Month luncheon

The Cesar Chávez Community Celebration Committee invites the public to its third annual Black History Month Empowerment Luncheon. The theme this year is “Blacks in Ministry,” and several pastors are slated to speak at the event in Modesto. RSVP before Feb. 23.

MAPS program

Modesto Area Partners in Science presents “The Foothill Physics Show” with Frank Cascarano and David Marasco. An educational and interactive event, it was started in 2007 by the two Foothill College physics instructors. With magic, physics and entertainment, the show intends to make physics fun and approachable for children of all ages.
