'The Pitt's Shabana Azeez Hints Toward a Major Change for Dr. Javadi in Season 3

You can officially put a big fat check mark next to another star of The Pitt'sname, because Shabana Azeez has confirmed that everybody's favorite Dr. J will return.

The actress is one of just a few actors to formally confirm their appearance in Season 3 so far, but the good news does come with a bittersweet caveat, as her time shadowing in the emergency room has come to an end.

Azeez spoke with Bustle over the weekend at the Newport Beach TV Fest, where she revealed to the publication that specialties will shift for Victoria Javadi come the start of the explosively popular medical procedural's third season.

While mum's the word regarding any specifics, the actress told the outlet, "I can say that I'm not in the ER this season." With her ER rotation out of the way, the doctor-to-be is moving on to a study in psychiatry-which shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to viewers after telling Whitaker at the end of Season 2, "The more time I spend here, the more I realize the importance of my mental health."

To prepare, Azeez has been "interviewing a lot of doctors recently," telling Parade exclusively that "emergency psych is no joke. It's really intense."

She described Season 1 as "growing as a person, learning skills, learning stuff" for Javadi, and Season 2 as "a cracking, like a shedding of skin" as she discovered how much she doesn't yet know.

"After shedding skin, there's a hardening. And I think that Season 3 probably will be a hardening, unfortunately," she continued, going on to describe her character as "The Pitt‘s coming of age story."

"She doesn't know who she is in these really fundamental ways. And so I think I really like how messy that coming-of-age story will be. I really hope it continues to be as messy," she concluded.

Season 2 newcomer Sepideh Moafi, who stars as Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, also recently confirmed her return to the PTMC, though she, too, is dodging any real teasers. In a recent interview with Variety, she told the publication that she's "not sure to what capacity" her character will be featured.

"Nothing is clear to me as to what's happening with the story, how many episodes, all that, but I am coming back," she said.
