Merced’s ‘Love Island’ fans can join together to watch the season finale
World Cup watch parties have been all the rage this summer, but a different kind of watch party will be held this weekend in Merced.
It’s not for soccer fans, but for reality TV fans.
The season finale of “Love Island USA” is being broadcast Sunday night, and Merced’s Joystiq Arcade Bar & Kitchen is inviting the show’s fans to attend a screening.
If you’ve yet to watch an episode, “Love Island” is a dating show that features a group of 20-somethings on a remote tropical paradise. The show has been called a “pop culture phenomenon.”
The Season 8 finale will be shown at 6 p.m. Sunday at Joystiq, although you should probably arrive early to get a good spot.
“Whether your favorite couple makes it or crashes out, you won’t want to miss the biggest episode of the season!” a post on Joystiq’s Facebook page says.
Joystiq’s post includes a warning that “Love Island USA” contains mature language and adult themes, so parents should use discretion.
Joystiq, at 325 W Main St, opened in 2023 and has become a popular downtown spot for families and students. The Sun-Star previously reported on Joystiq when it opened.
The downtown business is advertised as an arcade, bar and kitchen with standard bar fare including nachos, loaded fries, burgers and a variety of wings and sauces.
Joystiq won the Sun Star’s poll for best happy hour in Merced County in March.
