Music of Cash

A country music show is set for 7 p.m. Aug. 22, at Vista Ranch and Cellars, 7236 E. Highway 140, Merced. Cowboys by Night will open the the show for headliner James Garner’s Tribute to Johnny Cash, which includes the hits from the Man in Black. American Legion open mic

Bluesy musician Mark Tuttle and his combo play at 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at the American Legion in Merced, 939 W. Main St. At 7 p.m. the stage is open for other artists to perform, which includes singing, music, clean stand-up comedy, poetry or other talents. Proceeds from dinner and drink sales go to support veteran and youth programs. There is no cover, and no need to be a member to enter. For more, call Ed at 209-658-2663.

Musical auditions

Playhouse Merced is holding auditions for its conservatory’s production of “The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr.” and the Main Stage production of “Mary Poppins” at 1 p.m. Aug. 29. The conservatory audition is for anyone younger than 18, while the other show’s audition is for adults. Adult auditioners should bring 16 bars of music and clothes to dance in. Costume contest

The Owl Empire of Stanislaus County Inc. plans a costume contest called “A Night of Villains” at 6 p.m. Aug. 29 at Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. The villain-themed event includes a costume and performance contest. Tickets are $15 before the show, and $20 at the door. Movie in the park

“The Incredibles” is set to be shown at dusk, about 7:45 p.m., on Aug. 28 at Veterans Memorial Park, on the corner of Robertson Boulevard and Sixth Street. The city of Chowchilla organized the free Starry Summer Nights Movies in the Park.
