Merced Arts Wrap for Nov. 21, 2014

ShakespeareFest auditions

Merced Shakes holds auditions for its 2015 winter play, Shakespeare’s romance “The Winter’s Tale,” at 10 a.m. Saturday at Playhouse Merced, 452 W. Main St. in downtown Merced. Actors, singers and musicians of all ages are needed, and all roles are open. Performances will be in February. For more information, email katiebrokaw@gmail.com.

Amanda Miguel and Diego Verdaguer

Amanda Miguel and Diego Verdaguer are scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. today at the Merced Theatre, 301 W. Main St. Tickets are $56 to $83. For tickets or information visit tickets.mercedtheatre.org or call (209) 381-0100.

Merced College exhibit

Merced College Art Gallery will present an exhibition of photography, painting, sculpture, digital art, ceramic art and mixed media created by the school’s Arts Division faculty until Dec. 4, according to a press release. The gallery is in the theater building at Merced College. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and in conjunction with theater events. This event is free to the public and parking is enforced.

‘Oliver!’ at Playhouse Merced

Playhouse Merced’s production of “Oliver!” runs through Dec. 7, on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Adapted from the Charles Dickens classic “Oliver Twist,” “Oliver!” chronicles the life of a young orphan in 19th century London. Main St. in downtown Merced, Tuesday through Saturday from 1-5 p.m. The show is rated “E” for “everyone.”

La Ultima Risa closing

The Mariposa Art Co. will be throwing La Ultima Risa Closing Party featuring the music of Tres Muertos, a three-piece psychobilly band from San Fernando. The show will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at 1637 M St. The closing party will be the last chance to purchase artwork from more than 30 local artists. This is a free event.

Jazz band performance

The Merced College Jazz Band, directed by Ken Taylor, is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. today at the Merced College Theater, 3600 M St. The event is presented by the Merced College Music Department. Tickets are $8 general, $5 students, faculty, seniors and military.

Live music at Star Club

Live music happens at the Star Club from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Friday today and Saturday at 1331 W. Main St., Merced. There is no cover charge. You must be at least 21 to enter.

Events at the Partisan

The Partisan has a variety of events during the week, including open mike at 7 p.m. Mondays, Braingazm trivia at 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Kamikaze Karaoke at 9 p.m. Wednesdays. The Partisan is at 432 W. Main St. in Merced.

Radiation City at the Partisan

Radiation City is scheduled to perform at 9 p.m. today at the Partisan, 432 W. Main St. Also scheduled to perform are Radioactive Cauliflower and Wild Ones. Tickets are $5, ages 21 and up only.

Harmony Valley Chorus

The Harmony Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines International invites the public to join its Women’s Holiday Chorus now through Dec. 9. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the social hall of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 1455 E. Yosemite Ave., Merced.
