Tea Party monthly meeting
The Merced-Atwater Tea Party’s monthly meeting will be May 21, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Atwater Memorial Building, 5th street and Broadway, Atwater. The speaker will be Sinhue Noriega, author of “If It’s Broken Don’t Fix It.” His presentation will focus on Common Core. There will be a question-and-answer period. The event is open to the public.
AARP Merced to award scholarships
The AARP Merced Chapter No. 282 monthly meeting will be May 27 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. Scholarships will be awarded to the chapter’s 2015 Merced College recipients. After the meeting, there will be lunch, costing $3. The meeting is open to the public.
Auditions set for Shakespeare in the Park
Merced Shakes holds auditions for its 2015 summer Shakespeare in the Park play “King Henry V”, on May 16 at 1 p.m. at Playhouse Merced, 452 W. Main St., in downtown Merced. At least 15 actors and five actresses are needed. There will be cold reading of scenes; a prepared Shakespearian monologue is welcome, but not mandatory. Performances will be outdoors in September. New Beginnings pancake breakfast
New Beginnings for Merced County Animals will be holding a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s on May 16 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. All-you-can-eat pancakes, bacon and your choice of beverage will be served. Take-out orders are also available. Tickets are $7.50 each and may be purchased at Valley Animal Hospital, 58 W. 16th St., Christina’s Fine Clothing in the Bear Creek Galleria, and Maciel & Co. at the Mall. All proceeds will provide funds for New Beginnings’ animal transports. For more information, call 769-8953.
Amtrak Train Days exhibit
The San Joaquin Valley Toy Train Operators model train club will partner with Amtrak to celebrate Amtrak Train Days with a model train exhibit at the Merced Amtrak train station, 324 W. 24th St., from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Scale model train layouts will be operated throughout the day for the entertainment of passengers and the public at the station. The event is free and open to the public.
Merced High Class of 1980
Merced High School 1980 Class Reunion – 35th Anniversary will be held outdoors under the stars at Vista Ranch and Cellars, Merced, on Sept. 19 from 6 to 11 p.m. A casual event, the price is $12 per person and includes use of the venue, music and all amenities of Vista Ranch and Cellars. There will be a no-host bar and no-host dinner. Purchase tickets online by going to http://mhsclassof1980.bpt.me.
