How is Disneyland responding to the coronavirus outbreak? What you need to know

Disneyland and Walt Disney World are taking “preventative measures” against the coronavirus outbreak, the company said.

“We are carefully monitoring the evolving coronavirus situation and are in regular contact with health agencies for information and guidance,” the company said on its website. “Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort are open and welcoming guests and we continue to implement preventive measures in line with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as state and local health agencies.”

Disney said it already has “high standards of cleanliness and health and safety protocols in place,” including cleaning and disinfecting targeted areas, access to hand sanitizers and hand-washing facilities, fast response to spills and other situations, and sanitation procedures for bathrooms, kitchens, and other places at the end of the day.

The parks are ramping up cleaning and disinfecting in the wake of the outbreak.

“For example, we have added additional hand sanitizers throughout the park, increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfection in high guest contact areas, and are providing information about good hygiene practices and illness prevention to our guests and cast members,” Disney said.

After Shanghai Disney was shut down, the resort partially reopened Monday, although the park remained closed, USA Today reported.

Disneyland and Disney World were “fully operating during normal business hours” as of Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition, Vice President Mike Pence addressed whether it was safe to travel, according to Click Orlando.

“Whether it be Disney World, whether it be other destination, whether it be cruise ships … those most at risk are seniors with serious or chronic underlying health conditions,” Pence said, according to the outlet. “Otherwise Americans can confidently travel in this country.”

More than 118,000 people have been infected with the COVID-19 virus and more than 4,000 people have died, according to John Hopkins University.
