Retired women

The monthly luncheon for the Merced College Retired Women is 11:30 a.m. Thursday at La Hacienda 2, 3355 G St., Merced. This is a no-host luncheon.

Sober Fest

In honor of National Recovery Month, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, Merced County Probation Department and GEO Re-entry Services are hosting Sober Fest 2016, a family event 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Merced County Courthouse Park, 21st and N streets. Breakfast at zoo

Breakfast with the Animals is 8-11 a.m. Sept. 17 in Rossotti Ed-Zoo-Cation Center at Applegate Park Zoo, 1045 W. 25th St., Merced. Tickets include breakfast and admission to the zoo, and proceeds are used for zoo programs. Children and seniors get in for $5, adults are $10 and a family of two adults and three children is $25. Breakfast buffet

The Atwater Winton Lions Club will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast Buffet 7 a.m. to noon on Sept. 24 at the Atwater Women’s Club, 1201 Grove Ave., Atwater. It’s in conjunction with the Atwater Fall Festival. The cost per person is $8 for the buffet. Proceeds are used for local Lions projects as well as the California Lions Camp Pacifica. NAUS meets

The National Association for Uniformed Services local chapter will no longer be holding monthly meetings as the members voted to discontinue chapter operations. White elephant

The Atwater Women’s Club together with the Atwater-Winton Lions Club plans a White Elephant Sale from 7 a.m. to noon Sept. 24 at 1201 Grove Ave., Atwater. Breakfast is also planned. For more, call 209-358-5438.

Songwriting workshop

The Los Banos Arts Council presents the Writing System for Songwriters workshop with Terry Brown, an award-winning Western singer-songwriter, from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 1 at Ted Falasco Arts Center, 1105 Fifth St., Los Banos. The class is followed by a concert at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $40 for the class and concert; $20 for the concert alone, $15 for students.
