Constitution Day

Merced College will observe and celebrate U.S. Constitution Day and Citizenship Day on Friday at the main and Los Banos campuses, with several activities designed to promote an understanding and appreciation of the U.S. Constitution. For more information, call 209-381-6470.

Pet appreciation

Pet Appreciation Week will be marked 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Tractor Supply Co., 1700 Bell Lane, Atwater. The main event will include pet adoptions with community groups, samples, giveaways, drawings for gift cards, and other family-friendly activities. LGBT support

Due to several requests, the Merced LGBT Community Center is creating support groups for area residents. The first is the mature group, for ages 40 to 59, which will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month, which this month is Sept. 21, at the Community Center, 1744 G St., Suite H. ACE classes

ACE Overcomers helps teens and adults overcome the effects of adverse childhood experiences using a combination of biblical principles and solid science. Participants are taught how to “retrain your brain, and reset your nervous system” during the 12-week series beginning Sept. 26-27. Faith-based classes are 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays at Creekside Evangelical Free Church, 2876 N. G St., Merced; non-faith-based classes are 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays at First Baptist Church, 500 Buena Vista Drive, Merced. To register, go to www.aceovercomers.org.

MHS Class of ’81

The Merced High School Class of 1981’s 35-year class reunion is 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at the home of Jeff and Renie Fagundes, 2594 Kibby Road, Merced. Merced College guests

Merced College’s football team will host 200 children from Sheehy Elementary School during its next game. Last spring, some of the players went out to read to kindergarten and first-graders at the school, and have developed a relationship with students and faculty members.
