Tule Elk Day

The San Luis National Wildlife Refuge will host Tule Elk Day on Saturday. The celebration of the unique animal that survived extinction will feature presentations, tours, exhibits and displays at the refuge, 7376 S. Wolfsen Road in Los Banos. Visitors will be able to observe and learn about the elk herd inside their habitat via tours using refuge vans. Advance sign-ups for tours, which will be at 8 and 11 a.m., are recommended by calling 209-826-3508. Speakers include wildlife photographer Doug Ridgway and Cristen Langner from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Homecoming

Atwater High School’s Homecoming will be held Oct. 14. The Homecoming Parade starts at 3:30 p.m. by Foster Freeze in Atwater, and will proceed north on Winton Way and end on Fruitland Avenue at Dave Honey Stadium at Falcon Field. Various AHS clubs, athletic teams, bands and organizations will be in this year’s parade. There will also be numerous community organizations, local businesses and elementary/junior high schools involved.

Arts and crafts

The Circle of Love group is hosting an Arts and Crafts Boutique Oct. 14 at the Los Banos Community Center, 645 Seventh St. The event includes a $5 salad bar luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call Gloria Mendonca at 209-826-1059.

Republican women

Allison Olson, a Sacramento legislative advocate, will speak at the Merced County Republican Women Federated meeting Oct. 17 at the Branding Iron Restaurant, 640 W. 16th St. She will discuss and explain the propositions on the November ballot, and then answer questions. Sunday dance

Gloria and Friends will play for a dance at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. Door prizes and refreshments will be available. Cost is $8. For more information, call 209-723-0839.

Dancing for Birth

Attend Dancing for Birth classes at Merced College to feel more comfortable during pregnancy and birth. Classes run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays. To register, call Merced College at 209-384-6224 or go to www.mercedcommunityservices.com. The cost is $20 for a four-week session.

Craft fair

American Legion Post 83’s Holiday Bazaar Craft Fair will feature gifts for the Holiday Season from 1 to 6 p.m. Nov. 11 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 939 W. Main St., Merced. All proceeds will be used for the preservation of the memorial building and the needs of local veterans. Open to the public. Anyone who would like to participate in the event is welcome.
