Merced Shakespearefest

Merced Shakespearefest is scheduled to present the magical romance “The Winter’s Tale” Friday through Sunday and March 1 at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. in Merced. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12; $8 for students. Town hall meetings

Supervisor John Pedrozo will hold town hall meetings at 6:30 p.m today at the Livingston City Council chamber, 1416 C St. in Livingston, and at 6:30 p.m Feb. 25 in the multipurpose room of Tenaya Middle School, 760 W. Eighth St., Merced. Pedrozo said he has coordinated the participation of several Merced County department heads who will be on hand to answer questions or respond to concerns raised by the public. Marching 100 rummage sale

Merced High School’s Marching 100 Band is holding a rummage sale fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the school’s parking lot at 205 W. Olive Ave. Donations for the rummage sale should be brought to the Merced High Band Room on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. People wishing to donate items can also contact Harold Stauber at (209) 658-7120 to arrange for items to be picked up.

Volunteers sought as literacy tutors

Volunteer literacy tutors are sought to help adults at Merced County libraries. Call the Read and Succeed-Merced Adult Literacy Program at (209) 385-7391 to reserve your space at an informational orientation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 3 at the Merced County Library, 2100 O St., or from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 18 at the Los Banos Library, 1312 Seventh St. Participants must be 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED. Reservation required.

Franklin-Beachwood MAC meeting

The Franklin-Beachwood Municipal Advisory Council will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 25 at Franklin Elementary School, 2936 Franklin Road, Room 21. Marjie Kirn will give a presentation on the Atwater/Merced Expressway. For more information, call Dennis Haines at (209) 381-5981.

Merced College trip planned

The Merced College Community Services office plans a trip that features a bus headed to Columbia State Park in California’s Gold Country, where the town is run like it was 150 years ago. The trip is planned from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 7, and it also includes a viewing of the musical “Mary Poppins.” The cost is $79 per person, which includes transportation, refreshments and play admission.
