Mature driver improvement class
Merced College is offering a mature driving improvement class from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Merced College Educational Center on the Merced College campus. Native Daughters of the Golden West
Native Daughters of the Golden West, Veritas No. 75, of Merced will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 726 E. Olive Ave. All members are asked to help with this project. Help can be setting up the day before, working at the sale, or helping pick up donations and items from those who cannot bring them. All donations welcome. Merced County Republican Women
Merced County Republican Women Federated will meet Monday at the Branding Iron Restaurant, 640 W. 16th St., Merced. Retired Lt. Col. Mary Josephina Fragnito-Lira will speak about her experiences in the military. Social time begins at 11:30 a.m., with lunch at noon. Bunco will be played after the luncheon for a fundraiser. Turkey giveaway at Merced fairgrounds
Five hundred turkeys will be given away at noon Monday at the Merced County Fairgrounds grandstand, an annual tradition organized by Greg Hostetler in memory of his wife, Cathie. The Hostetlers have given away turkeys in Merced and Los Banos for more than 30 years. You must have identification and there is a limit of one turkey per household. Operation Christmas Child
The Operation Christmas Child campaign will collect shoeboxes with toys, school supplies and hygiene products from 1 to 4 p.m. through Nov. 21. Drop-off locations will be at 353 E. Merced Sierra Club awards dinner
The public is invited to the Merced Sierra Club’s annual awards dinner on Dec. 3 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 1455 E. Yosemite Ave., Merced. Featured speaker Bob Turner will present “The Greatest Scenic Views of the American West.” Bring a salad or main dish to share. Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30; program to follow. Holiday bake sale
New Beginnings for Merced County Animals will hold its annual bake sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 10 at Christina’s Fine Clothing in the Bear Creek Galleria, 2852 G St., Merced. All varieties of desserts will be available, including some packaged for gift giving. The sale also features raffle items, including airline tickets for any destination in the continental United States. All proceeds benefit animals in Merced County. Annual poinsettia sale
