Thanksgiving Day Potluck

This Ain’t Your Mama’s Church is offering a Thanksgiving Day potluck meal and fellowship from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church, 1405 W. Main St. It is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share. For more, go to www.bikechurch.org.

Salvation Army seeks kettle ringers

The Salvation Army in Merced is seeking volunteers to collect donations during the holidays as kettle ringers, beginning Friday at various locations and at flexible times. Day Break Adult Day Health Care

The public is invited to attend a free informational luncheon at noon Nov. 30 for Day Break Adult Day Health Care with Catherine Knittel at Pacifica Senior Living, 3420 R St., Merced. This program benefits those in the community who do not have the disposable income for, but need, respite care. Seating is limited. Call Shana at 209-384-9700 to reserve your seat. AARP Monterey Aquarium Trip

The Merced AARP chapter invites anyone to sign up for a tour bus trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and 17 Mile Drive on Dec 6. The cost is $80. The new deadline to sign up is Nov. 30 at the next AARP meeting. Merced Sierra Club’s awards dinner

The public is invited to the Merced Sierra Club’s annual awards dinner on Dec. 3 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 1455 E. Yosemite Ave., Merced. Featured speaker Bob Turner will present “The Greatest Scenic Views of the American West.” Bring a salad or main dish to share. Doors open at 6 and dinner is at 6:30 p.m.; program to follow. Breakfast with Santa

The El Capitan Gaucho Diamond Boosters Club is hosting a breakfast with Santa in support of the school’s baseball team. The breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Dec. 10 at the El Capitan High School cafeteria, 100 Farmland Ave., Merced. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, fruit, coffee and orange juice. Holiday Bake Sale

New Beginnings for Merced County Animals is holding its annual bake sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 10 at Christina’s Fine Clothing in the Bear Creek Galleria, 2852 G St., Merced. All varieties of desserts will be available, including some packaged for gift giving. The sale also will feature raffle items, including airline tickets for any destination in the continental United States. All proceeds benefit animals in Merced County. Wonders of California Essay Contest

The Native Daughters of the Golden West of Merced is encouraging area students in fourth through eighth grades to consider the “Wonders of California” as part of the Native Daughters Essay Contest for 2017. First-place winners in each grade level will receive awards of $50. A certificate will be given to each participant.
