Mental Health Board

The Merced County Mental Health Board meets Tuesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at 1137 B St., Merced. The public is invited.

Columbia trip

The Merced College Community Services office is offering a bus trip Saturday to Columbia State Park in California’s gold country, where the town is run like it was 150 years ago. The trip will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and includes a viewing of the musical “Mary Poppins.” The cost is $79 per person, which includes transportation, refreshments and play admission. Enchilada dinner

The Hornitos Patron Club will have an enchilada dinner from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Golden Stag Hall, 2884 Bear Valley Road in Hornitos. The event will include a performance by the Hacienda Valencia Spanish horse and the dance group Sole del Valle. Dinner is $15 for adults and $7 for children 12 and younger. MS program

“Mood and Cognition in Multiple Sclerosis: What You Can Do” is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, 500 Buena Vista Drive in Merced. The program explores why and how people with multiple sclerosis experience changes in mood and cognitive functioning, and provides the latest information on how these symptoms can be addressed. Tax assistance

In partnership with the IRS, United Way of Merced County will prepare tax returns for free for households that make less than $51,000 a year. Assistance will be offered from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. on Saturdays until April 10 at the United Way office, 658 W. Main Street in Merced. This free service will also be provided at the Salvation Army office in Los Banos and the Lifeline Community Center in Winton. For more information, call United Way at (209) 383-4242.

Call for exhibits

The Merced College Art Gallery is considering solo and group exhibits for the upcoming fall and spring semesters. The gallery coordinator and Merced College art faculty schedule six exhibits for the academic year. Artists are encouraged to submit a portfolio for this year’s selection process. Portfolios need to be mailed or delivered to the gallery for review. Include 20 digital images of artwork, an artist bio and an artist statement. A self-addressed, stamped envelope should be included if materials need to be returned. Deadline for entries is March 30. Mental illness group

Merced County’s branch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness holds biweekly support groups for families affected by serious mental illness. For more information, call (209) 381-6844 and a volunteer will contact you within 48 hours.
