‘Lights Before Christmas’ at Applegate Zoo
The stars of the Applegate Zoo will be highlighted from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday for the “Lights Before Christmas” holiday extravaganza. Kids of all ages can make decorations in Santa’s Workshop, pet some of the “reindeer” and visit Santa. The cost is $3, with kids 5 and under $1. Art of Giving workshop
The Mariposa Art Company will host the 3rd Art of Giving workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The gallery is located at 3600 Thunderbird Ave., inside Castle Air Force Base. The event is is free. For more information, email mariposaartcompany@gmail.com.
2nd annual Odd Fellows Christmas Craft Fair
The La Grange Odd Fellows are planning their second annual Christmas Craft Fair, set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Odd Fellows Hall, 30018 Yosemite Blvd., La Grange. They are seeking crafters to set up displays. Space is limited and based on first come, first serve. The cost is $25. For more information, call Patty Ducheneaux 209-604-4444.
Odd Fellows breakfast
The Odd Fellows of LaFayette Historical Lodge 65 will hosting its monthly breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday. The menu includes biscuits and gravy, sausage, ham and cheese omelets and French toast. Complimentary coffee and orange juice will be served. The cost is $6 for people ages 12 and up, $3 for children ages 7-12, and free for children 6 and under. The IOOF Hall, a vintage 1881 building on the National Historic Register, is the scene of many community events. Ceramics Open Lab
Merced College Community Services will be offering beginning Ceramics Open Lab from 6 to 9 p.m. on Mondays from Jan. 9 through March 13, or on Thursdays from Jan. 19 through March 9. The cost is $80 per participant. For more information, call 209-384-6224 or email communitysvc@mccd.edu.
Coat Drive in Merced
United Way is sponsoring a coat drive to benefit those in need in the community. Donate new or gently used coats for youths, ages 1 to 19, to United Way of Merced County at 658 W. Main St., Merced. They can be dropped off through Jan. 30 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
Elks Bingo
Enjoy bingo every Tuesday night at the Elks Lodge, 1910 M St., Merced. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.; the snack bar opens at 5:30 p.m. and early bird games begin at 6:30, with regular games starting at 7. For information, call 209-723-1240. All proceeds go to Elks Lodge charities.
