Book fair at St. Anthony School
The Scholastic Book Fair will be held at St. Anthony School, 1801 Winton Way, Atwater, through Friday in the small hall. Hours of operation will be Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will also be open during the preschool and elementary school’s Christmas plays from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights, and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. There will be books for all ages from preschool to adult. Stop by for some great Christmas gifts.
Merced County Republican Women luncheon
Merced County Republican Women Federated will meet on Monday at the Branding Iron Restaurant, 640 W. 16th St., Merced. Christmas music will be offered in lieu of a speaker. Those attending the luncheon are asked to bring unwrapped toys, nonperishable foods, clothing, etc., for donation to the Salvation Army. Social time begins at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. Reservations are required by Thursday by contacting 209-723-8584 or mtzw@aol.com.
Christmas Eve service in Le Grand
A service of carols and candlelight will be held at 4 p.m. Christmas Eve in the sanctuary of Le Grand United Methodist Church, 3801 Washington St. in Le Grand. The Christmas morning service will be held at 9:30 a.m.
Fitness lab membership
Merced College Community Services will be offering fitness lab membership from Jan. 3-31 on Mondays through Fridays from 5:30 to 7:30 a.m. The cost is $25 per participant. For more information, call 209-384-6224 or email communitysvc@mccd.edu.
Merced Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group
The Merced Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group’s next meeting is 1 to 2 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Hoffmeister Center, 1920 Canal St., Merced. If your toes, fingers, feet or hands tingle or feel numb, you might have peripheral neuropathy. You are not alone. Roundtable discussion and informative handouts available. Mariposa Master Gardeners
Mariposa Master Gardeners will offer a free workshop on pruning presented by Emeritus Fruit and Nut Advisor Maxwell Norton from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 21 in Catheys Valley. Norton will show how to prune trees for convenience, the tree’s maximum health, its best support structure and bearing capability. Participants are asked to register at http://cemariposa.ucanr.edu or call 209-966-2417 to receive handouts and be notified of any last-minute changes. This workshop will be an outside experience, so dress accordingly.
Castle Air Museum art exhibit
An exhibit featuring local artists is on display though Feb. 28 at Castle Air Museum, 5050 Santa Fe Drive, Atwater. Some of the art on display is available for sale to benefit the museum, which is among the largest nonprofit aviation museums in the country. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. For more information, call 209-723-2178 or 209-723-2182 on weekends.
