Art Show and Auction

Help Local Animals
Throughout December, New Beginnings for Merced County Animals’ Giving Trees will be displayed at three locations: Valley Animal Hospital and Santa Fe Pet Hospital in Merced, and Merced County Animal Services in Atwater. Donors select a card from the tree that shows an area of need, write the amount of donation on the card and replace it on the tree. The donation is then given to a receptionist. Donations will be allocated according to the need specified on the card: Transport, Medical or Spay/Neuter. All proceeds benefit animals of Merced County. For more information, call 209-769-8953.
Introduction to Microsoft Word & Office 2013
Merced College Community Services will offer Introduction to Microsoft Word and Office 2013 beginning Jan. 27 at two locations – from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Merced College Business Resource Center and from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Merced College’s Los Banos campus – Fridays through Feb. 10. Lap Swim

VFW breakfast
Breakfast is served from 8 to 11 a.m. on the first Sunday of each month at the Veterans Hall, 1390 Broadway Ave., Atwater. The menu is varied and cooked to order, including omelets with hash browns and biscuit for $7, two eggs cooked to order with hash browns, sausage or bacon and a biscuit. A Belgium waffle with strawberries and cream, bacon or sausage is $4. Two biscuits with sausage gravy go for $3. All breakfasts include juice and coffee. Call the hall at 209-358-7224.
CASA volunteers
CASA is looking for volunteers, who must complete 30 hours of training and 10 hours of court observation. The average CASA volunteer spends eight to 10 hours a month on a case. For more, call CASA at 209-722-2272 or go to Mercedcasa.org.
Behind-the-Scenes Tours at Applegate Park Zoo
Applegate Park Zoo is offering behind-the-scenes tours. Parkgoers will be able to learn more about the animals and how they came to the zoo while also getting a closer look at some of the park’s more famous attractions, including Windfall the black bear, Bean the raccoon, Mac the mountain lion, and many more. Hospital volunteers
Mercy Medical Center, 333 Mercy Ave., Merced, is taking applications for new volunteers, who can work in the gift shop, front lobby desk, surgical waiting room desk and the pavilion.
