ServSafe training

Merced College Business Resource Center is holding a ServSafe training class Tuesday and March 17 from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is $179 per participant. The center is at 630 W. 19th St. For more information, call (209) 384-6224.

Valley author

The public is invited to a presentation by Valley author Dimitri Keriotis at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Wendell Olson Forum, on the second floor of the Merced College Library, 3600 M St. Keriotis teaches English at Modesto Junior College and co-coordinates the High Sierra Institute. His debut collection of short stories, “The Quiet Time,” was released by SFA Press. The program is free. Light refreshments will be served after the presentation. The author will also sign copies of his new book.

‘Comedy All-Stars’

Percio Productions presents “Comedy All-Stars” on Friday at the Merced Theatre, 301 W. Main St. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8. Scheduled entertainers include Alex Ortiz, Jay Lamont, Jeff Burghart and Alex Ortiz. Tickets are $20 to $25. For more information, go to http://tickets.mercedtheatre.org.

Happy Trails group

The Happy Trails Social Group will be traveling to Oakdale on Saturday to join the Sierra Lunch Train. The group will meet at 9:45 a.m. at Atwater Baptist Church, 2124 First St., Atwater. Cost is $70. For more information and reservations, call Donna Plett at (209) 358-3693.

‘In the Mood’

A fully staged tribute to the big bands of the 1940s is 7 p.m. March 17 at the Merced Theatre, 301 W. Main St. Tickets are $29 to $49. For more information, go to http://tickets.mercedtheatre.org.

Fair competitions

The Merced County Spring Fair in Los Banos will feature a hay squeeze competition, a timed event for loading and unloading hay bales, for the first time this year. Other competitions include a hay thief event; stock car and truck racing; and a motor home destruction derby. The competitions are scheduled throughout the fair’s run, April 29 through May 3. There is a fee to enter the competitions, and cash prizes for winners. For rules and entry forms, call the Los Banos fair office at (209) 826-5166.

Indoor soccer

Merced’s Recreation Department and the Indoor Sports Center will offer indoor youth soccer on Saturdays in March and April for ages 3 and 10 at the Indoor Sports Center. Cost is $45 plus $10 for the uniform. Registration deadline is Feb. 7. Register at 1033 W. Main Street or call (209) 385-6298 for more information.
