Hunter safety training

The city of Merced’s Office of Recreation will offer a hunter safety course Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost of the training program is $15 per person. Classes are held at the Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. Call (209) 385-6298 for more information or register at 678 W. 18th St. Space for the classes is limited.

Gospel music concert

Julie Eichelberger presents another evening of gospel music as part of the Julie-N-Friends gospel concert series. This performance takes place at 6 p.m. March 29 at the Christian Life Center, 650 E. Olive Ave., Merced. Admission is free. Performers includes a “quartet of trios,” Solid Ground from Sacramento, The Cornells and The Roberts, both from Bakersfield, and the host group, Bridge of Grace from Merced. CHP offers driver’s safety class for seniors

The California Highway Patrol has invited residents over the age of 55 to attend a driver’s safety education class. The class is scheduled 12:30 p.m. March 16 at the Merced-area CHP office, 1500 Bell Drive in Atwater. The class is free, but space is limited. World Dance course

A World Dance course is being offered through Merced College Community Services and will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Merced College in Gym 4. The cost will be $40 per person per six-week session, the first of which began Wednesday. Applicants can register for free online at www.mercedcommunityservices.com.

Merced College gallery seeks exhibitions

The Merced College Art Gallery is considering proposals and solo and group exhibits for the upcoming fall and spring semesters. The gallery coordinator and Merced College art faculty schedule six exhibits for the academic year. Artists are encouraged to submit a portfolio for this year’s selection process. Portfolios need to be mailed or delivered to the gallery for review. Please include 20 digital images of artwork, artist bio and an artist statement. A self addressed and stamped envelope should be included if materials need to be returned. Deadline for entries is March 30. Sunrise Toastmasters

The Sunrise Toastmasters Club meets at 6:30 a.m. Fridays at Carrows Restaurant, 720 Motel Drive. New members are always welcome. For details, call (209) 384-7128 or (209) 756-3001.

Stroke Support Group

The local Stroke Support Group is open to anyone who has survived a stroke. Family, friends and caregivers are welcome. Meetings are from 4 to 5:30 p.m. the second Thursday of every month at the Mercy Medical Pavilion, third floor, classroom A, 315 Mercy Ave. in Merced. There is no cost or registration required to attend. Call (209) 564-4310 for more information.
