Teddy Bear Day at the zoo

Teddy Bear Day at Applegate Zoo is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Staff from the Merced Zoological Society and Zoo will teach people about bears. Admission to the zoo is $2 for ages 5 to 15, $3 for ages 16 to 61 and $1.50 for ages 62 and older. Children under 5 are free. The zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Sunday.

Indian Gulch run

The 39th annual Indian Gulch run is Sunday in the foothills of Hornitos. Proceeds benefit the Buhach Colony High cross-country team. Check-in and race day registration begins at 7:15 a.m. All races start at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast is included with registration, which ranges from $20 to $25. College plant sale

Merced College will hold its annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 28 at its greenhouses. There will be tomatoes, peppers, vegetables, herbs, perennials, succulents, fruit and shade trees, and much more. Signs will lead visitors to the area off M Street. Call (209) 631-2026.

Income tax help

In partnership with the Internal Revenue Service, the United Way of Merced County will prepare tax returns for free for households that make less than $51,000. Help is available from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturdays through April 10 at the office on 658 W. Main St. in Merced. This free service is also available at the Salvation Army office in Los Banos and the Lifeline Community Center in Winton. Call United Way at (209) 383-4242 for more information.

Happy Trails group

The Happy Trails Social Group will travel to Oakdale on Saturday to join the Sierra Lunch Train. The group will meet at 9:45 a.m. at Atwater Baptist Church, 2124 First St. in Atwater. Cost is $70. For details and reservations, call Donna Plett at (209) 358-3693.

ServSafe training

Merced College Business Resource Center will hold a ServSafe training class Tuesday from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is $179 per person. The center is at 630 W. 19th St. For more information, call (209) 384-6224.

Seeking art to exhibit

The Merced College Art Gallery is considering solo and group exhibits for the fall and spring semesters. The gallery coordinator and Merced College art faculty schedule six exhibits for the academic year. Artists are encouraged to submit a portfolio for this year’s selection process. Portfolios should be mailed or delivered to the gallery for review. Include 20 digital images of artwork, an artist bio and an artist statement. A self-addressed, stamped envelope should be included if materials need to be returned. Deadline for entries is March 30.
