ServSafe training

Merced College Business Resource Center is holding a ServSafe training class Tuesday from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is $179 per participant. The center is at 630 W. 19th St. For more information, call (209) 384-6224.

‘Comedy All-Stars’

Percio Productions presents “Comedy All-Stars” on Fridayat the Merced Theatre, 301 W. Main St. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8. Happy Trails group

‘In the Mood’

Fair competitions

The Merced County Spring Fair in Los Banos will feature a hay squeeze competition, a timed event for loading and unloading hay bales, for the first time this year. Other competitions include a hay thief event; stock car and truck racing; and a motor home destruction derby. The competitions are scheduled throughout the fair’s run, April 29 through May 3. There is a fee to enter the competitions and cash prizes for winners. For rules and entry forms, call the Los Banos fair office at (209) 826-5166.

Teddy Bear Day at the zoo

Teddy Bear Day at Applegate Zoo is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Staff from the Merced Zoological Society and Zoo will teach people about bears. Admission to the zoo is $2 for ages 5 to 15, $3 for ages 16 to 61 and $1.50 for ages 62 and older. Children under 5 are free. The zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Sunday.

‘Heart for Art’

The California Retired Teachers Association is sponsoring a “Heart for Art” event from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. The program will be focused on digital art using an iPad, presented by Paul Longo, PhD. In addition, Vicki Eisenhart, an expert quilter, will give a presentation. There’s no charge for the activity. After the program, members and friends of CalRTA will have a lunch including corned beef sandwiches and Irish coffee at 510 Bistro, 510 W. Income tax help

In partnership with the Internal Revenue Service, the United Way of Merced County will prepare tax returns for free for households that make less than $51,000. Help is available from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturdays through April 10 at the office on 658 W. Main St. in Merced. This free service is also available at the Salvation Army office in Los Banos and the Lifeline Community Center in Winton. Call United Way at (209) 383-4242 for more information.
